Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced outdoor professional, Navigation Course is designed to be accessible and transformative. Founded by Anup Gurung a world-class kayaker, IRF instructor, solo paraglider, and enduro rider who has conquered extreme environments across the globe and Rajiv Chand, a retired Major from the Nepali Army Special Forces with over 20 years of real-world field experience in navigation, leadership, and decision-making, HOP was built on a powerful belief: “We don’t just teach skills we help people discover who they are through real experience.” As Course Director Maj. Rajiv Chand puts it: “Skill creates confidence. Not technology.” Navigation Training has never been more within reach.
Navigation Course is 100% field-based you learn by doing, in real terrain, not in a classroom. Nepal is one of the world’s best natural classrooms for navigation training, offering diverse terrain including mountains, hills, forests, and remote trails that challenge and develop true skills. Navigation Course takes place in the Kathmandu Valley’s mountain and forest terrain, with compact geography that allows access to multiple environments within short distances. You don’t just learn navigation you experience it in one of the most dynamic landscapes on Earth. All training is conducted in small groups of 12–15 participants, with step-by-step skill progression and a focus on thinking, not memorizing. HOP’s 4E Principle Education, Experience, Expertise, Excellence ensures that every participant, regardless of background, receives the training and support needed to succeed. Navigation Training is not just about reading a map; it’s about clear thinking, correct decisions, and confident movement.
Navigation Course offers three distinct programs designed for all levels. The Basic Navigation Course (2 Days, Beginner to Intermediate) builds strong foundations you’ll learn map reading and terrain understanding, contour lines and elevation, compass basics and direction control, distance and time estimation, and basic route planning. By the end, you’ll navigate independently in daylight, use map and compass with confidence, and understand terrain clearly. The Advanced Navigation and Orienteering Course (5 Days, Intermediate to Professional) takes you deeper advanced map interpretation and precision bearings, dead reckoning, resection, triangulation, route planning in complex terrain, risk assessment, navigation in low visibility (fog, forest, night), error detection and correction, and team coordination under pressure. A final real-world navigation challenge includes day and night navigation, multiple checkpoints, and independent decision-making. Navigation Course also offers a Kids and Student Program a safe and engaging introduction where students develop direction sense, problem-solving skills, confidence in nature, and decision-making ability. Navigation Training is for beginners who want real outdoor confidence, students and young learners (Age 8+), trekkers and adventure enthusiasts, outdoor professionals and expedition leaders, and search and rescue teams.
