Nepal doesn't have a single trekking season it has two good ones, separated by a monsoon that shuts most high-altitude routes down entirely. Get the timing wrong and you're looking at flooded trails and zero mountain views; get it right and you're in some of the clearest, most reliable trekking weather anywhere in the world.
01The Two Main Seasons
Autumn (late September–November) is Nepal's most popular and most reliable trekking window. Post-monsoon skies are clear, temperatures are moderate at lower and mid altitudes, and visibility is consistently excellent this is when most trekkers see the mountain views they came for. It's also the busiest season on popular routes like Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit.
Spring (March–May) is the second major window, and arguably the more beautiful one at lower elevations rhododendron forests bloom through March and April across mid-hill Nepal. Mornings tend to be clearer than afternoons, when haze can build, but overall conditions are stable and reliable for most treks.
02Month-by-Month Breakdown
December–February (Winter)
Cold, especially at altitude, but clear and dry with far fewer trekkers. Lower-elevation treks remain very doable; high passes can be difficult or closed depending on snowfall. A good window for experienced cold-weather trekkers seeking solitude.
March–May (Spring)
Rhododendron blooms peak in March–April at mid-elevations. Temperatures rise through the season. Good visibility, especially in the mornings. One of the two prime trekking windows.
June–August (Monsoon)
Heavy rain across most of Nepal, leeches on lower-elevation trails, obscured mountain views and landslide risk on some routes. Generally not recommended for the major trekking regions the exception is the rain-shadow regions like Upper Mustang and Upper Dolpo, which sit north of the main Himalayan range and see minimal monsoon rainfall.
September–November (Autumn)
Clear post-monsoon skies, moderate temperatures, the most reliable visibility of the year. The busiest season on popular routes book well ahead if trekking in October, the peak month.
03Region-Specific Notes
- ✓Everest region: Autumn and spring both work well; autumn generally offers the clearest Everest views. Winter is possible on the standard Everest Base Camp Trek for well-prepared trekkers but expect serious cold at altitude.
- ✓Annapurna region: Similar autumn/spring pattern to Everest, with spring rhododendron blooms being a particular draw on the Annapurna Circuit's lower sections.
- ✓Manaslu region: Restricted-area permits and a slightly shorter season window make autumn the more commonly recommended time; spring is workable but less established for this route. Manaslu Circuit Trek

04Quick Recommendation
If you only trek Nepal once, October is the safest bet the clearest visibility of the year, though also the busiest trail traffic. If you'd rather avoid crowds and don't mind slightly less certain visibility, late spring (May) or the shoulder edges of autumn (late November) are worth considering.
