This expedition combines a stunning 5-day trek through rhododendron forests and high Himalayan ridges with 5 days of relentless Class IV–V whitewater through deep gorges and pristine jungle. Known as the “Jewel of the East,” the Tamur is perfect for adventurers seeking a true off-the-beaten-path experience with the perfect mix of trekking and paddling.
You will trek ancient trails with views of Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga, then launch onto a river packed with over 120 rapids across 131 kilometers. Evenings are spent camping on white sand beaches, sharing stories around a fire beneath a billion stars. This is a serious expedition for those with a sense of adventure and a desire for something different from the rivers of Nepal.
Touchdown in Nepal! We pick you up, you kick back. Check into your comfy hotel in Kathmandu, breathe in that Himalayan air, and let the adventure vibe sink in. In the evening, we gather for a team huddle: gear talk, last minute questions, and some laughs over our first dinner together. It’s getting real.
A long but stunning Himalayan drive (12–15 hours) takes you from Kathmandu to Basantapur, where you'll settle in for an expedition briefing and overnight lodge stay.
You'll trek 5–6 hours along a scenic ridge, passing through traditional hill villages and dense forests before setting up camp with your first teasing views of the high Himalaya.
Today's 5–7 hour climb opens into alpine meadows with jaw-dropping panoramas of Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and even Everest, camping high among the giants.
A 5–6 hour descent takes you down through beautiful forests toward the Tamur River, with the roar of the rapids growing louder as you camp near the water's edge.
After a final 4-hour trek, you arrive at Dobhan where the rafting crew has set up a riverside camp, and you'll complete a full safety briefing and paddle practice.
Your first day on the river delivers immediate action with continuous Class III–IV rapids, and after 4–5 hours of paddling you pull into camp at Kabeli.
This is the heart of the expedition: a tight canyon with pushy Class IV–V rapids requiring full focus and teamwork over 5–6 hours before camping at Koyo.
Big water and long, playful wave trains keep the adrenaline high for 5–6 hours, ending at a beautiful sandy beach camp near Dumre.
The valley widens as you paddle 5–6 hours through fast, continuous Class III–IV rapids, camping at a spectacular spot where the river bends and the stars shine bright.
Your final 4–5 hour run takes you through warm lowlands and nonstop rapids to the take-out at Chatara, followed by the drive back to Kathmandu and a farewell dinner.
Roads are bumpy and unpredictable — patience is part of the adventure. Trust the journey (and your driver!).
Bring enough personal medications for the entire trip — pharmacies don’t exist in the middle of nowhere.
Internet is rare or non-existent in remote areas — disconnect and enjoy being truly off-grid.
Avoid drinking untreated water — bring purification tablets or use filtered water we provide.
Be cautious with street food and uncooked items — as tempting as it looks, it’s not worth spending your expedition battling food poisoning or diarrhea. Stick to cooked meals and bottled or boiled water.
Never overpack — it’s just going to be a burden for everyone, including you.
Leave footprints, not traces. Respect the rivers, mountains, and the people who live here.
Come with an open, respectful mindset toward local culture and traditions.
Facilities are minimal in remote regions — embrace simplicity and celebrate the wild instead of comfort.
Carry enough cash — ATMs and card payments can vanish as fast as the phone signal.
Keep your permits and documents handy — sometimes you’ll need to show them at checkpoints.
Stay calm when plans change — things don’t always go as scheduled, and that’s okay. Nepal has its own rhythm.
Enjoy the journey, not just the destination. Every detour and delay is part of the story.
Stick with your group — wandering off isn’t just unsafe, it’s unnecessary in landscapes this vast.
Switch off everything and tune in to the moment. This is why you came here.
Be mindful of altitude and hydration — drink plenty of water and take breaks when needed.
Tipping is not mandatory but always appreciated — your guides and crew will remember your generosity long after the trip.
Smile often — it’s the universal language here and opens more doors than words ever could.
