The Tamor, Nepal's sixth-largest river, carves through a remote eastern Nepal valley. Prepare to be dazzled by stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and minimal settlements – a true off-the-beaten-path adventure.
The Tamor River Kayaking trip offers unmatched highlights. Paddle through uninterrupted whitewater sections fueled by the river's impressive water volume. Before hitting the rapids, enjoy a breathtaking 4-day trek through pristine valleys, culminating at the launch point.

Reaching the starting point involves an 18-hour private minibus ride followed by the 4-day trek. The kayaking adventure itself lasts 5-6 days, conquering 135km of the Tamor River. For your return journey, choose between a 16-hour minibus ride or a flight from Biratnagar (additional cost).
We will pick you up at the International airport in Kathmandu and check in the hotel in the touristic area of Kathmandu.
Briefing about the trip, and shopping for personal necessary items.
Go out for dinner and a few beers.
We meet at the breakfast place in Thamel, KTM and we head off to the domestic airport in Kathmandu. Flight to South-East Nepal, Biratnagar ~40minutes. Weather permitted, we observe the Himalayas and Mt. Everest.
At Biratnagar we meet our ground crew and our vehicule. We head to the city of Dharan where we have our packed lunch.
We drive to Basantapur through scenic windy roads, a thriving bazaar and the starting point of our trek. Night and dinner at the Yak hotel and lodge .(altitude 1800m)
We start our trek following the path that gently goes up and down through moss-covered trees and meadows. ~5 hours hike and overnight camp at Chauki. .(altitude 2300m). Large flat grassy area to set your tent with incredible views of the Makalu range.
We keep going on the path offering breathtaking views on the Makalu and the Kanchenjunga Massif. We follow the longest ridge of Nepal crossing 3000m. We reach Gufa Pokhari and its holy lake. Overnight camp in the village.(altitude 2900m)
Limited access to water but possibility to taste local delicacies such as millet fermented beer, home-made alcohol, or tea, and chew on a piece of dried cheese with villagers
We now start our descent towards the valley and the river. We hike through green hills, rice terraces and mountain villages and stop at Gorja village. Overnight camp on a flat grassy area (altitude 2100m). Warmer temperatures and access to water
We continue our descent towards the Tamur river. We hike through rice terraces, bamboo jungle and mountain villages. We meet more and more locals as we go down in altitude. We meet kids going to school, and their parents walking to their work or field. We buy fruits and local products as we approach our final destination the village of Dhoban. We enter the village by crossing a hanging bridge. Overnight camp by the Tamur river. (altitude 800m).
After a filling breakfast, we sort out our gears and the guides tie the gear rafts. Before we jump on the boat and head downstream, our river guides give a comprehensive safety talk. Soon after the starting point, we are hitting continuous class 3 and 4 rapids. We set up our camp 20-25km further down, before the confluence with the Hinwan Khola.
Two solid days of rafting are a head of us with mainly class 4 rapids. Rapids continue at the rate of about one rapid per km then the valley widens a bit with wooded sides. The rest of the day is a succession of bend, flat section and nice rapids with play wave. We stop for lunches and overnight camps on beautiful sandy beaches.
Layover day and a chance to do what you want: read, relax, play volleyball, Frisbee, soccer, master the art of sand sculpture or learn Nepalese card games. We may also take advantage of this day to hike to small villages nearby, or take part on a kayak workshop offered by our safety kayakers. The schedule will be up to you!
The river gradient steepens bringing some phenomenal whitewater action today. Roller coasters class 4 rapids and fun waves leading to a more bouncy rapids. We pass Mulghat bridge and set up our camp a few kms below.
After an early breakfast and a short float we reach Chatara, our take out point. Fly back to Katmandu.

Nepal's 4+ rapids on a kayak demands both physical prowess and technical expertise. Paddling against fast currents and maneuvering rapids requires excellent upper body strength, core stability, and strong cardiovascular endurance.
Swimming confidently is a must in case of a capsize. On the skill side, prior whitewater kayaking experience, especially on Class 3 rapids, is crucial.
Swiftwater rescue techniques like self-rescue and buddy rescue are essential for safety. We assess your skills, provide instruction, navigate the river's challenges, and prioritize your safety.

This payment policy outlines how to secure your spot and settle your balance for our adventure services.
Booking Confirmation: To ensure a smooth booking experience, we require full payment upfront to confirm your reservation for any of our adventures. The deposit amount varies depending on the specific trip and will be clearly stated during the booking process.
Payment Method: We currently only accept deposits and full balances via bank transfer. Details for our bank account will be provided upon booking confirmation.
Trip Confirmation: The full amount for your chosen adventure is due at the time of booking. Once we receive your bank transfer, your reservation will be confirmed.
Deposit Policy: Since we require full payment upfront, there's no separate deposit policy.
Trip Cancellation: In case you need to cancel your trip, please notify us as soon as possible in writing (email). Cancellation fees will apply based on the following schedule:
o More than 90 days before departure: after deducting 10% cancelation charge your deposit will be refunded.
o Between 15 and 60 days before departure: 30% cancelation fees will be applied.
o Less than 14 days before departure: No refund
Unforeseen Circumstances: We reserve the right to cancel or modify your trip due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control (e.g., weather conditions, political unrest). In such cases, we will do our best to offer alternative arrangements or provide a full or partial refund depending on the situation.

White Water Rafting is an adventure sport where you cruise down and navigate a river aboard an inflatable rubber raft. White Water refers to rivers that have a lot of rapids, so White Water Rafting means running across rough rivers like these.
2. What about safety during the rafting trip?
Since White Water Rafting is considered an extreme sport, there are many safety issues related to this sport. We understand this and make sure that our clients’ safety is our prime concern. Besides, our guides have participated in various Rescue and First Aid trainings allowing us to take care of adventure seekers who choose to participate in this extreme sport.
3. Do I need insurance for this trip?
We recommend that our clients have proper medical insurance before choosing to raft with us. This allows us to make necessary arrangements in case of emergencies.
4. What equipment do I need for the trip and what equipment do you provide?
What we provide: Rafts, life-jackets, helmets, oars, other accessories, First Aid Kit (tapes, bandages, general drugs etc).
What you need to bring: Clothing and footwear, toiletries, cameras, batteries and other personal items.
5. What is the best season for White Water Rafting in Nepal?
September to early December and March to early June are commercial rafting months in Nepal. The more adventurous and experienced, however, choose to run the rivers from early September to early October and May to June when there is high flow in the river stream.
